CaoBang: Day trip to Ban Gioc (70m high waterfall, 30m deep pool)
Morning: Had a wonderful breakfast at a stall right next to the hotel. The
Granny was kind to us.
Waterfall:
Vietnamese: Thac Ban Gioc.
Chinese: 板約瀑布, 天瀑布
2 waterfalls on QuaySon River (GuiChun River). The other side of the river
is China's Guangxi province.
Used by local bandits whose treasure is occasionally still found in the
cliff-side cafes!
Majority of the locals are Tay people. Considered to be one of the smartest
in Vietnam. There was dispute regarding border demarcation between Vietnam
and China. It was settled in 1999 and a further clarification talk was held
in 2009.
A Tay lady from University of Hanoi was back in BanGioc for holiday. Spoke
English and good Mandarin. Impressive.
The other locals at the stall found us interesting. Chit chat soon let to
them offering local Gioc Ngok (corn "vodka").
Evening: Back in CaoBang. Went to check out one of the top local restaurant.
The only thing special seems to be the price (400k for a fish!!). So we
opted to try this Ap Chao stall.
